1. Location : NIT Uttarakhand is running at a temporary campus in Srinagar (a small town in Pauri Garhwal district of the state Uttarakhand). Srinagar has no rail/air route. The only way to come here is by bus/taxi of 4-4.5 hours journey through hilly terrains from Rishikesh (which is the nearest railhead). This is the main reason that why most of the companies don't visit the campus for recruitment even after knowing that this is an institution of national importance. The place lacks in resources, hence for small to small things which are necessary for our technical studies as well as daily needs, we have to take a 4 hour journey to Rishikesh. This is really hectic procedure and it consumes a lot of time and money of the students as well as the faculty. 2. Temporary Campus : The academic block is running at temporary campus (old ITI) and the residential block is also at temporary campus (currently running Polytechnic). The labs don't have sufficient equipments and instruments which are most important for student to get practical knowledge, and hence we lack behind the students at other NITs. When we reached the officials about the matter, we got to know that due to lack of space, we are not getting new lab instruments. And the most of them which are present are not functioning well. The labs are not enough even for the students, then how can we think about the future of the faculty members? They are not able to pursue their research activities here. And for the same reason we are not able to work with our faculty in their research projects. The future of all the students and faculty is in dark. The total strength of hostels is 836 students (all the hostels are 4/6 seater), and the total strength of the institute is more than 1,050. Hence each year, more than 250 students have to take rented apartments near the campus, which is a very hectic task and it creates a lot of extra and unwanted problems in their daily life. 3. Facilities : The NIT doesn't have its own auditorium. A grain godown is used as auditorium. The institute has only one sports ground under its jurisdiction, which at most of the time is used by the local people and we don't get chance to play. The officials say that they cannot ban local people to the NIT ground because then they directly complaint to the SDM, and then the SDM pressurises them to allow the local people to the ground. Hence, along with our academic, cultural and technical life, our sports life is also not up to the mark. We are not having the basic facilities. The internet is so slow that we cannot use it for learning some latest technologies or just surf the internet for getting some daily news, etc. The hostels are made of truss and tin shades and are so congested that living there is near impossible for a human. 6 students in a single small room, makes us feel like we are in a poultry farm. The hostels get so heated up in summer (because they are made of tin shades), and no sufficient arrangements made to cope up with hot summers. The lecture halls are also made up of the same material, and there are no ACs or Air Coolers. It is so difficult for the faculty to deliver the lecture by bathing in sweat. The same is the situation of students. They can't learn from the lectures because they have to sit for 5 hours bathing in sweat. And the officials are not even interested in installing ACs in the lecture halls. 4. Miscellaneous : The mess is so small that it cannot hold all the 1,050 students of students at a time. Hence most of us have to look for food outside the college, but this small town doesn't have enough food facilities. The library and the book bank doesn't have sufficient number of books of all the subjects. Hence, even after paying the book bank fees, we don't get all the books for our courses. The Course Book shows a lot of courses which can be opted, but due to lack of faculty of most of the areas, we cannot opt those courses. The permanent campus was to be constructed in Sumari (around 15km from Srinagar), but due to failure of soil test and chances of landslides, the campus couldn't be constructed there. For this reason MHRD wrote to the then State Govt run by Congress to re issue another land for the campus. But State Govt. haven't issued another land yet. But now as the state govt is also of BJP, I request you to please look into the matter, so that construction of permanent campus (preferably in plain area of Uttarakhand) can be started as soon as possible. This is a growing and developing institution and hence needs a leader (Director) to take the institute to great heights. The previous director resigned in November 2016, and since then the college is running without any regular Director. The annual audit report shows that the institute has a whopping amount of Rs. 20,65,01,787 unspent at the end of March, 2016. Then why this institute is not using this money for the growth and betterment of the institute? The institute is a growing structure and has to make its own mark among other top institutes of the country, but even after having so much of money provided by the government, the officials are not able to utilize it. This institute needs to grow, for the betterment of students, faculty and the state Uttarakhand. And this temporary campus is very small compared to the requirement. I request you to look into the matter and shift the campus to a larger campus in Rishikesh or Dehradun. Being at Rishikesh/Dehradun will help the institute getting the required resources and more accessibility of more number of companies. This will increase the number of campus recruitments. Further, this will make this NIT go above in rankings and ultimately this will be a small effort for the development of the state Uttarakhand and the nation. Everyone directly or indirectly related with this institute knows the importance of shifting of the campus to a larger temporary campus. Surviving here is near equal to impossible. The students, the faculty, the admin and the whole institute is looking forward to you for help. Thank You
